For centuries, doctors have sent patients to the sea for its healing properties. Cadzand-Bad in West Zeelandic Flanders has had a bathing culture since 1866, which started with the bathhouse's construction. The first bathing machine appeared on the Cadzand-Bad coast in the same year. Men and women could rent a bathing suit, and women were then taken to the sea by horse and cart. "Cures", or bathing in the sea, became popular. The seawater proved beneficial against a wide range of ailments.
 

BATH STATUS

Since 2014, Cadzand-Bad and Domburg are the only coastal resorts that meet the European spa association's criteria for thalassotherapy. The seaside location is healthy for the body and mind. Discover it for yourself!
